Published: July 2017

Collection of poems written with stanzas that have only two lines. 2 line stanzas are called Couplets. Couplets usually rhyme, but they do not have to. A stanza in poetry is a group of lines usually separated by a blank line. Stanzas of 2 lines are called Couplets from the Old French word cople meaning two.

Both had Transcendental ideas, which was the American version of Romantic Idealism. Transcendentalists believed in focusing on the spiritual instead of material concerns. They believed society had tarnished the purity of an individual. Themes of Transcendentalism can be found in this poem. Though something seems firm and unwavering, you don’t see what is happening below the surface. Staying true to who we are will pay off in the end and keep you from destruction. This poem is made up of rhyming couplets.

Although I am only 26 years of age, I feel as if (in reference to The Rolling Stones' great song) time is no longer on our side. My family gets smaller as the years pass. I no longer have any grandparents, and the rest of the family rarely talks or gets along. I'm sure each reader thinks about how they really wish they appreciated their youth more, but we can't stop time; we can only cherish it.

I was inspired to write this poem after being stood up for the 3rd time by a guy who had led me to believe he was completely into me. Phone conversations in the middle of the night that would last for hours, dates that were absolutely awesome on every level, unbelievable rapport and compatibility, physical attraction... just a lot in common... like twin flames. But then he started making dates but never showed or even called, sometimes until a week or two later. Then he just stopped... no closure.

It's mean and it's cruel...it's completely absurd.

Now I'm left here to wonder what could've gone wrong,
Why he just stopped calling, why he strung me along?

My thoughts, they consume me, like a crop consumes rain.
Another sleepless night just might drive me insane.

I toss and I turn over and over again.
I can't help but feel like I've lost my best friend.

But a friend would be honest, wouldn't play with your heart.
A friend wouldn't lie to you right from the start.

A friend would still be there come tomorrow...
A friend would comfort, not cause you sorrow.

I wonder if....whatever his reasons may be
That surely he knew his actions would hurt me?

And I wonder if from time to time
The thought of me might cross his mind?

Does he think about my "angel" eyes
Filled with tears because he lied?

Does my memory haunt him in his sleep?
For him it's probably not that deep.

I truly wish him all the best,
Hope he's okay and finds happiness...

Finds everything he's looking for....
Good health, true love and so much more.

I miss him, and it breaks my heart,
That it had to end before it got to start.

Smooth sailing one day, but then you're left stranded by the one you love and trust the most. The moments we had were perfect, and they couldn't have been any better. But all good comes to an end. And this is what my poem is about.

All good things come to an end,
Even the gifts that God sends,

Like her, the angel He sent from above

All good things come to an end,
Even the gifts that God sends,

who was the one person I truly loved.

She changed everything and made my life worthwhile.
She was the only one who could make me smile.

She really doesn't understand how much she means.
I'll never be as happy as I've been.

She was my heart and my soul,
She filled me with joy and made me whole.

She was my world, my greatest treasure.
I loved her so much that it couldn't be measured.

I remember every kiss and touch.
All our memories I miss so much.

I wish we could go back in time,
When I was hers and she was mine.

I'd always protect her and let nothing harm her.
How ironic it was though that she was my armor.

She always made me feel so secure.
No matter what went wrong, she always had a cure.

With her, I felt absolutely no fear,
But now I'm scared of anything that comes near.

She healed me and put me back together,
So I held on to her; she was my tether.

Sadly, she suddenly cut the rope,
And with it went my happiness and hope.

The spell had finally been broken
As I realized I had awoken.

It had all just been a dream,
No matter how real it may have seemed.

Everything I felt had been an illusion,
Explained by the way it left me in shock and confusion.

My best dream became my worst nightmare.
She vanished while she was right there.

She left me to struggle on my own.
She left me stranded, isolated, and all alone.

I had to wake up and realize
That the only real truth are real lies.

But I can truly tell her, "You're the sweetest dream I ever had,"
And for that, I can only be grateful and glad.

To be happy again, I'll have to relive the past.
Hold on to every memory for as long as they last,

To look back at how I used to feel,
To remember them as if they were real.

Even though it's over, l'll have to pretend,
Because all good things must come to an end.

Can't Accept That You're Gone

My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February of 2007, and for 3 years he tried to fight this killer, but the cancer won. I miss him every day, and I write to help me through my pain. This is just a poem I wrote describing how I feel. He has been gone a year and a half now, and even though I was by his side when he died, I still cannot even for a minute believe he is really gone. Love and miss you, Dad. You are my Angel.
