Poem about Life Struggles

Poem About How Time Flies

Although I am only 26 years of age, I feel as if (in reference to The Rolling Stones' great song) time is no longer on our side. My family gets smaller as the years pass. I no longer have any grandparents, and the rest of the family rarely talks or gets along. I'm sure each reader thinks about how they really wish they appreciated their youth more, but we can't stop time; we can only cherish it.

Tick tock...tick tock...
Life is counting down on your internal clock.

Memories that feel as if they occurred yesterday
turn to flashes of moments that seem to fade away.

People you once knew
walk by without a clue.

The times you once shared
exist as if you were never there.

Years fly...friends die...
and you never know when you'll say your last goodbye.

Oh, how I wish I could turn back time,
spend it with loved ones and cherish what once was mine.

Or to go back even more,
being a kid in a candy store.

How I miss the way I used to feel
on Christmas day when Santa was real.

But back to reality...back to today,
family is scarce and memories continue to fade away.

Tick tock...tick tock...
How I wish I could control this clock.

Nice poem. I am also among those people who are depressed, but after reading this poem, it gives a little gift of peace for me. Thanks!

It’s not that we forget to live. We always have this thought in our mind, but the sad reality is that even after knowing how precious our time is and realizing our limited time on earth, all we do is be anxious, depressed, worried about the future, worried about the present, and regretting the past. We can’t blame ourselves for this thing. It’s human nature. But one day we’ll suddenly awake from the bad dream, someday we’ll realize that all our overthinking and frustration meant nothing. Our destiny is written. We are eventually going to be at the place where we are destined to be. Let’s take this moment to realize that we have limited amount of time on this beautiful planet. Let’s take a vow to have no more worries, no more sadness. Let’s be alive, let’s rejoice, let’s change our perspective, and let’s change the world.

Your poem says it all: regrets about the past, worries about the future. Our anxiety prevents us from living in the present. Let's create beautiful memories in the present to comfort us tomorrow. I have a slogan: MAKE EVERY HOUR COUNT!

Wow...very nice. It inspired me a lot. I have been depressed over the passing of my grandpa. I'm coming out of it little by little...

This poem is so beautiful. It reminds me that it doesn't matter who you are; we will all eventually die.

This poem is about a dead person looking at the state of the world after their death and wishing to go back in time so that they can capitalize on every moment they get to spend doing the things they love and being with the people they love. This poem is the person's existential crisis because as more and more of their family and friends die, more and more memories and any record of them fade away until eventually no one remembers them, and it becomes like they almost never existed.

Very touching and so descriptive. Sadly, none of us realize that time, family, and life's journey pass us by so quickly. Situations pass us by, people get lost into the confusion of life. We never actually relish the moment when it arrives. As the saying goes, "You live and you learn. Pity you have to live before you learn." You never truly realize how precious people are until they have gone.

I agree with you so much, and this is true; you truly don't cherish till they are gone.

If I had the chance to go back to the past, I'd want to change my mistakes.

Such a good poem. I wish everyone understood how quickly our lives go by and would cherish life and every day. I wish they would learn to live in peace and make peace. I also look back on those loved ones I miss so very much, and I can see how fast the years went by and now they're gone. But I thank God that I had that time with them. We cannot make time stop or go back, and life always holds some regrets, so I guess all we can do is go forward and take with us only our best memories and learn from the rest. You really put thought into this poem. Thank you for sharing!

Really beautiful poem. The rhythm is really smooth. It touched my heart. Death is not the only way people fade away. Right now am in 12th standard. Soon I will have to leave my friends and family to study abroad. I wish I could control time. This poem is just sublime.

I also lost my grandparents very young and wish I had the skill you have to share how it felt. Very well written touching poem, and a great comfort.
