  1. If Only I Knew

    • By Sennette Gaoses
    • Published by Family Friend Poems February 2014 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this emotional poem when I started thinking about the things regarding my sister Mencia Gawanas that I took for granted. I thought that she'd always be around, so there were all these things that I thought I would always have. I thought she'd always text me, or smile at me, or call me. I thought I would have her in my life forever. Alas, God had a different plan for us. I just wish I knew that I would have her for so little a time, for she was only 20.

  2. Keeping The Promises

    • By Morgan Gregg
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2013 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem from the point of view of a someone who is speaking to their friend, and talking about how throughout their lives they have always managed to stay together. That their friendship was strong enough to make it through the good, the bad, and all the in-between moments they have gone through in their lives, and even though their lives are close to ending, they were, are, and will always be best friends.

    in Life Long Friend Poems

Do you remember, when we were young, those promises we made?
The promise to be there for each other, no matter night or day.

The promise to keep secrets, no matter what they are.

  8. Second Best

    • By Rachel Jane
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016 with permission of the Author.

This is a poem about being second best to an ex. Having been with my partner for 22 years and having 3 children to him, I get hurt when I know he's being thinking about an ex he had before me (he saw her for 6 months; she was married and aborted his baby). Unfortunately, whenever my partner feels low, he starts to go over everything bad from his past and struggles to see what he has in his life now: a nice house, car, loving and loyal partner, and three amazing kids.

My grandfather recently died, and it just broke my heart. My family was military, so my visits with him weren't always very common; however, that never changed the way I felt about him. He was what made up my best childhood memories, and for that I am forever grateful!

This poem is written from a very personal view during my battle with depression. This talks about the fact that you have to hide your true feelings and the constant act that you put on to the people around you.

    • By Jojo Cywinski
    • Published by Family Friend Poems December 2015 with permission of the Author.

Have you ever just looked at the person you're in love with and thought, "Wow, how on earth did I find this person? How did I get someone so amazing and so perfect?" Love makes you feel emotions you never thought you could feel before. Sometimes it makes your life, your whole world, surreal. It's an overpowering feeling, and it can be so hard to explain these emotions, thoughts, feelings you have towards them (that no one else has for them). I'm sure a lot of you can relate...

  14. Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall

    • By Madelyn F. Lanier
    • Published by Family Friend Poems October 2022 with permission of the Author.

This poem is about how girls are often taken for granted and corrected, regardless of how hard we try. This often stems into insecurity that sticks with us for the rest of our lives. Everything I mention in this poem is something most girls have thought about, some time or another. Everyone is perfect the way they are! Jesus loves you! Remember that you are a daughter of the King!

  15. One More

    • By Maranda G. Brice
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2011 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem for my cousin, Debbie Taylor, who was also my teacher at the Christian School I go to. I miss her so much. It just doesn't seem real that she is gone. I prayed for God to help me with my poetry and this one just came pouring out of me. I just wish I had gotten more time with her. I wanted her to see me graduate, get married, have kids, and become a teacher like her. I just wanted one more everything with her. I guess that is why I titled this poem One More.
