Addiction Poem

I have been having a really hard time struggling with my heroin addiction for quite some time now. I wrote this poem after I was released from a 28 day rehab. I love writing poems in the hopes to keep the ones who have never used drugs away from using and for other addicts like myself to be able to relate. Please let me know what you think!!! Thanks

The Truth About Drugs

Published by Family Friend Poems March 2010 with permission of the Author.

I pray for the one who uses for the first time today...They wont want to leave, they'll want more so they'll stay...

They will do it for fun at first, or maybe even the high...They will like when they're using, they're far from being shy...

It will start with excuses to their family, maybe even a friend...Then there isn't a rule that they won't bend...

And that's when it starts, the road to disaster...Being a liar and thief is what they will master...

It will start with denial, they'll say "I'll be fine"...But at this point it's only a matter of time...

They will lose their kids, their car, even their home if they had one...This drug brings you down, there won't be anymore fun...

They'll be out for days, weeks, or months on a binge...Getting their high from a dirty syringe...

They'll be lying and stealing, having no conscious or thinking...They are stuck in quicksand and slowly sinking...

They will try to pull up but there in too deep to pull out...There body needs it to function, that without a doubt...

They are sick with no money, no dope to get cured with...They thought the stories they heard were all just a big myth...

Now they do believe as they stand with no hope...That this is the life you'll live, if you pick up that dope...

Jails, Institutions, and Death, it's that blunt...So play with the devil if that's what you want...

This poem says it all, it is "The Truth". My daughter was there, She found the strength to fight. The addiction was slowly taking her life. I was scared to death for her, looking for her all hours of the night, chasing thoughts of where I might find her, scared of the unknown. I'm so proud of her, she fought hard, has her life again, she is back to being a great mom, sister, girlfriend and most of all I have my daughter. My prayers were answered.

Heroin is no joke. I was addicted to opiates and methadone for years. I have thought I would be taking methadone till the day I die, but only by the grace of God did I get off of it. It has been over a year.
My 24 year old son: My heart and soul died Dec. 4, 2009 from a heroin overdose. The sad thing about it the so called friends he was using with waited 4 hours to call the paramedics.
I am now in college and am planning on opening a facility as alternative sentencing. In Memory of my son. It will be called Craver's House of Hope.
