Losing My Girlfriend To Breast Cancer Poem

This story is about losing my first ever girlfriend to breast cancer, she meant everything to me, I'm no poem writer, but I can convey my pain. Her family didn't approve of us. And to me, that makes our love stronger, and that deadly disease took her away from me, when I needed her the most.
There is and will never be anyone like my Dana.
I want everyone, to remember Dana, and honor her life.

I sat there with a smile
the words didn't sink in, it took a while
but when I finally realized
that you were gone
the pain was too much
and I hoped they were wrong
but their words were true
and never again would I hold you
why did you go
and leave this pain
it hurts me more each day
that I don't see your face
smiling in the rain
couldn't you have stayed?
and been here with me
to take away my pain
and be with me
smiling in the rain.
