1. Ocean Lover
Silky smooth water flows across your skin...
Its delicate waves drift you astray.
The reflection of the sun glistens from within...
As if its light will never fade away.
Three quarters of the earth's surface is covered by water. The ocean conceals billions of creatures interacting in ways that we will never fully understand. Much of the ocean is mysterious. We cruise along on boats on the ocean's surface, and sit on beaches watching the ocean's surf meet the land. One of the great things about the ocean is that we cannot build on it. It will remain a vast open space perfect for contemplation.

Its delicate waves drift you astray.
The reflection of the sun glistens from within...
As if its light will never fade away.

The perpetual cadence of the vast sea
Stirs a restless desire that engulfs me.
Like an infinite force I dare not impede,
Briefly rushing in - only to then recede.
I used to think that I was nothing, but I'm not anything - I am something - that is a talented, intelligent, calm, kind, pretty, artistic, unique girl who is loved by everyone around me. I...

The stillness is but a facade
Calm and peace fleeting
As I observe the clouds building
And the sound of my own heart beating.
Hello fellow Lake Erie boater. I am thankful for your note. I know my poetry is very elementary, but I always try to base it on some personal experience. The Mentor Yacht Club is so...
Seagulls soar above her surf,
The sun reflects and gleams,
While people come from miles around
To stroll upon her beach.
Dear Elizabeth,
Growing up in New Jersey, I have always had easy access to the ocean. I love the ocean but, I have always been interested in the beauty of the PACNW. I love to look at films...
A song of perseverance
We're riding the days
Like surfs on the waves
Famous Poem
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.
My grandmother lived on the Gulf Coast on a bay, and I visited her throughout my childhood, from my home in the southwest desert. I've lived years now from any coast and found this poem...
Gentle lulling of the sea,
Once again you beckon me.
Caressing waves upon the shore
Transporting me to years of yore.
Yes, thank you for again remembering these beautiful days when we've taken on outings as children. All 7 of us loved these trips. Not long ago I was sad I lost contact with an older gent who...
ever changing, constant
rhythmic and random
silence, full of sound
like cold water
I too grew up on the coast in Ireland. The Atlantic energizes and grounds me. I feel at peace on the shore like nowhere else on Earth. I live in Cumbria now where I can reach the coast easily...
It roars like a lion,
Yet so calm and sincere,
Like a refined diamond.
Much beauty lurks here.
I know a place where the world is still,
where time and space have no hold.
I know a place where my heart and soul are one
and there are stories left untold.
I love the ocean as well, just the sound of its waves and the smell of the salty water and the breeze that carries it. When I get mad or sad I just think of the ocean, and it calms me down. I...
Across the vastness of open sea
Traveling onward incessantly
Beginning with a breath of air
From skies above with clouds or bare;
The waves trickle along my toes.
The soft ocean sprays across my nose.
The sand was compliant under my feet
Exactly where the ocean and it decide to meet.
The poem beautifully captured my sensory experience of being at the ocean, with vivid imagery that transported me to the beach. The use of descriptive language effectively conveyed the...
There's something about
how the sea draws me in
much like your eyes
even though I know I could drown
As the day ends to rest
The sunset does its best
Setting on fire the lively waves
Colouring orange the nature he saves
I live in Alaska and the sunsets are so beautiful on the water. I can totally relate to the part at the end where it says the night devours the magic but I still stand in awe.
The red and white striped lighthouse,
Standing by the sea,
As quiet as a mouse,
Telling boats where it be.
This touches my heart, because it brings back beautiful memories of all the lighthouses that I have seen in my lifetime. And the heartfelt meaning when you hear the story of the lighthouse....
Analysis of Form and Technique
CRASHING waves... SMASHING seas...
Bringing sailors to their knees.
As they struggle to save their lives,
Hoping and praying help arrives.
This poem brought a tear to my eye and I love the way that the author has written this particular poem. It definitely is top in my book.
I would be enthralled at the stories the ocean could tell,
about explorers and adventurers that traversed its swell,
of the lives lost in shipwrecks and of pirate tales of old,
and legends passed down through generations, told.
Famous Poem
O little wave, you come from far,
Over the sky-line yonder.
Why do you hurry across the bar
And fight with the wind, I wonder?
