In My Dream

I took my daughter by the hand
and said I Love you.
As I held her tiny hand
my tears began to fall like rain.
I can't hide what I feel
inside this big heart of mine
to be able to see her laugh
and smile would touch this heart of mine.
As I sat and talked to her
of the day she would become a woman
looking in her blue eyes,
I could only hope
that she would understand.
We talked about boys and the
games she loved to play and
then I made her a promise
I'd never go away.
Then I awakened in my prison cell
and the grim reality
but for a while in my dream
my daughter was here with me.
