A Mom Who Lights Up My Life

My name is Bindiya. I'm 16, going on 17. I dropped out of school due to poverty, and I grew up with my mom, grandma, stepfather, and brothers and sisters. My family is like my world. I didn't grow up with my own father. He was very rich and wanted another, and he abandoned my mom when I was only 8 months in her womb. It was very difficult growing up.

You're like the sun
that brightens the day.
When you're not there,
the light goes away.

You're like the moon
that brightens the night.
When you're not around,
there is no light.

You're like the stars
that shine so bright.
You're never wrong
but always right.

You're like the tree
that bears the sweetest pear.

There's one thing
in my heart I want to say.
"You're the world's best mom
I see every day."
