Son Poem

A Change For Self--Is Selfless

In my early thirties I was captivated by "frosty the nose man." It started out recreational like many things. I can handle it. By the third year sniffing off my golden spoon I became paranoid. I was fine but everyone else was messed up. My wife said she's going back to Ohio to her family if I didn't quit. Our son was about four months old at the time And he needed his Dad. I had to change for my good, and for his good. My son and I saved each other. This poem is for us. For love. For my Son.

You're older now but just twenty-five
A young man with a boy still inside
I've helped you grow
And I'm humbled by what I see
You're a wonderful addition to our family tree

Please listen to me as time goes on
What I share with you is life's long song
There's a bond between us that cannot be broken
It's unspoken words of two men in focus

We look at each other and not not say a word
Yet we nod and know we've understood
I'm proud of you son you've grown strong and true
Your love completing the man in me too
