Once in a while, if you are feeling blue,
When troubles seem to keep coming along,
If you will take the time to listen to music
It can lift your spirits on the wings of a song.

You don't have to be in a concert hall,
For nature provides its own symphonies.
There are no discords in the murmuring stream,
Or the wind as it gently hums through the trees.

Who has not heard the frogs' cheerful concert
When the nighttime shadows draw near?
If you will take the time to quietly listen,
The evening serenade of crickets you'll hear.

There's a rhythm to the lapping waves on the shore.
In the sky, every bird has its own melody.
Even the mightiest humpback whale
Sings its love songs down deep in the sea.

It may not change the problems that you have.
There are times when things will go wrong.
Still, it can help bring peace to your soul
When you lift your heart on the wings of a song...

A little old lady, I do not mind being.
What I find I don't like are the changes I'm seeing.
My marbles are still rolling in the right direction.
I enjoy this old world, though it has imperfections.

I promise to stop driving if I start losing control,
But I still think that someone moved our telephone pole.
Now listen, my friends, you don't have to shout.
That won't help me know what you're talking about.

The words that you say have a new meaning now.
I admit that I find they confuse me, somehow.
Websites were something we swished with the broom.
We wouldn't have endured a mouse in the room.

You can take all your I-Pods and fancy cell phones.
Who wants to listen to all those ring tones?
A disc that was flopping would have created a fuss.
Mega-bytes and hard drives really sound ominous.

There's one thing I do know; I don't want to see
My world being reduced to a mere five-by-three.
I know that high-tech can do things that are fine.
Still, when getting touch, don't call me online.

There is more to poetry
Than rhythm and rhyme.
It's a window to our souls,
Undiminished by time.

It's where tears and joys
Are clearly expressed.
It's the thoughts that ordinarily
Might be repressed.

It can be set to music,
Increasing its worth,
Sending joy to the heavens
That encompass the Earth.

You can make almost anything
Become immortal
By poetic words
Sent over the portal.

So put down your thoughts
When you have inspiration.
You'll be adding your part
To the whole of creation.
