Short Sad Poem

Poem About How We Hide Ourselves

Hey, everyone! No one really knows me, not even my boyfriend. I hide myself, which I am sure most of you do as well. This is not supposed to make you sad but to recognize what a lot of us do, mask ourselves from who we really are.

She smiles, I cry.
She is outgoing, I am shy.
She loves, I am alone.
She is amazing, I am unknown.
She is beautiful, I am a mess.
She is happy, I am depressed.
My mask is perfect:
She hides me.

Love the Yin and Yang of the words with the twist of wordplay at the end. I am a Gemini who sees most everything in black or white. I'm hoping to learn to like gray a smidge, but this short, succinct gem reinforces my love of polar opposites.

This poem is absolutely beautiful. As I was reading it, I began to think it was about a girl comparing herself to another girl, but the last 2 lines make it really touch your heart. Reading "she hides me" draws in the fact that people see this beautiful happy girl on the outside, never taking time to really know if someone is not ok. Many people can relate to the mask. I know I can be someone else to hide what you really are. So thank you, Kleis Val. Your poem touches my heart.

This has a sad vibe to it (like me), but it's wonderful and beautiful. This is definitely the type of poem that describes me in some ways. I'm actually glad I found this one, and I hope to use it for my ELA class. Good work, poet Kleis Val!

Masks are a conflicting subject for me. I know what they are. I think I use them, but then I'm not really sure. I think it's probably because masks are so common that you can't tell when they are and when they aren't used. It's not as if masks are a bad things, because they aren't. Most things that end up bad were created for a good purpose. It is mostly the fact that people use them so much, that we can't merely describe them as "masks" anymore. They are much more than that. My friends, my teachers, my classmates, even my family seem to carry masks. It's hard to tell if I do too. I hope you figured it all out in the end.
