For My Grandpa

Published by Family Friend Poems March 2008 with permission of the Author.

I know we are all feeling a little bit sad
That we've lost our Grandpa, our friend, and our dad.
Together we have cried an ocean of tears
As we feel so empty and hold many fears.

But Grandpa would want us to know he's in a good place
And that he's watching us all with a smile on his face,
As we have made him so proud, as proud as can be
That he has raised such a beautiful and special family.

Thinking back now, I really must say
I feel lucky and privileged to have known Grandpa to this day.
For in my life, you have played a special part.
The memories I will treasure and keep close to my heart.

For me, I am glad my little baby he got to meet.
And for all of us, be grateful, his life is now complete.
To each one of us he has loved and cared.
As a family, be thankful for the good times we shared.

Although he has gone, we will always be together,
And his spirit will live on in each one of us forever.
When you look to the sky, look for the brightest star,
As that will be Grandpa looking down on us from afar.

And now I would like to thank the good Lord above
For blessing us with our Grandpa, with his kindness and love.
Dear God, if it is not too much fuss,
Take extra special care of our Grandpa, for he is very dear to us.

Grandpa, if you are listening, say a prayer for us every day.
Be sure to protect us and guide us on our way.
We know when God called you, you had to go,
But we want you to know, Grandpa, we miss you and love you so.

I lost my grandparents on the same day on August 28, 2015. Our life was filled with tears and pain. I lost my grandma at 10 o' clock in morning and grandpa at 8 in evening. They were not ill, so that was a shock for all of us. We'll never forget that day....we always miss you. Love you!

I lost my grandfather today as of 1:15 am on 3/21. I cannot get over the fact that he's gone, I'm only fifteen years old and felt that I should document his life here. He came from Poland with nothing from WW2, too poor to go to school or any of that, he only had 200 dollars he borrowed and with that he worked his ass off every day to help create a place for him and his soon to be family. He worked hard enough to let my dad and my dad's brother go to college which then led to my my older sister making it to college. I just wish I had more time to talk to the biggest inspiration of my life. I cannot believe Covid took my grandpa from me. I'll MISS YOU SO MUCH DZIADZIU!!!!

I lost my grandpa about a month ago to a car accident. I'm 15 and I just feel like I never appreciated him enough when he was here. There are so many things I wished I had gotten to say to him and now I will never be able to. He was the kind of person who would always put others before himself and help others out. A lady came up to my family at the funeral and told us that she was there with him and gave him the last rights and stayed with him so he wouldn't be alone. It's just so hard to go on and I wish it were different. No one I know understands what I'm going through and I just feel really alone.

I get what you mean, except I'm thirteen. I wish I would've appreciated him more, too. My grandpa passed away from cancer last night while I was at a stupid party. I wish I would've been there instead.

My grandfather passed away about 45 minutes ago. I am in shock sitting here all by myself while my mom and her 5 siblings are over at his condominium. I don't know what to say. He was the one who probably kept my life in order when I was at the worst. He was always there for me and always rooted for me. He had Parkinson's Disease for the past 12 years. I had to take a year off of work to be his caretaker when he started getting really bad with the disease. I don't know what to do. I have work tomorrow and I cannot sleep. I saw him last night and watched the Cubs game with him and my mom, and now he is gone as of 11:11pm in Chicago. This is horrible. I really don't know what to do....Im pacing and panicking.

I know how you feel. It feels like you lost your best friend, the closest thing you had in your family. I lost my grandpa at 10:10pm on October 10. My world fell apart when I found out. I felt numb, like I couldn't move. I was in shock of everything going on that I didn't take the time to think about how he was in a better place, a place where he won't hurt anymore. He is at peace watching over.

I lost my grandad just short of a year ago on the 4th of March 2016 and it was the hardest day of my life. He was the biggest inspiration in my life, and I will never forget all that he did for me because he wasn't only my grandad but he was my best friend and was always there when I needed him. He was the rock of my family and kept it together when it was all falling apart, but now that he's gone, it's all changed and we're all trying so hard to carry on and be strong because it's exactly what he would of wanted.

Cancer is the worst thing in the world, and unfortunately my kind, loving, generous, selfless grandad had to fight a long and challenging battle, but in the final week before his death he just couldn't fight it anymore and the disease took away my best friend. I just hope he knows there isn't a day that goes by when I don't think of him. If I could bring him back for just one single day, I'd have so much to say. I love my granddad, and I hope he is proud of me.

My granddad passed away yesterday, and for 25 years I have known him as a strong, wise, and funny person. He loved many things in his life, like starting businesses, keeping in touch with the community, breeding horses and most of all his killer wife and family.

This is a beautiful poem in that it reminds me of all the moments we've had. Right now it makes me realize how much of a role model he is for me. I came too late yesterday to say farewell, but the thing I regret most is not spending more time with him, listening to his stories, asking unanswered questions, etc...

Grandpa, thank you for everything. You battled long and hard these last five years and were for the last time a true inspiration for us all. I am relieved you are no longer suffering, and just like in this poem, I find hope in that you are watching over us from Heaven. Stay close, I hope to meet you again in time.

I've been thinking of a poem I could read at my Grandfather's funeral, when he passes away. That time is very close now and this poem was perfect, especially the line "For me I am glad my little baby he got to meet" is so true because I am glad he met my son, who I gave my Grandfathers name as his middle. This poem had me in tears by the end. It is the perfect poem to read, and I will state I got it off this site, but I'm grateful for this poem to be written when my heart wouldn't have been in it to write one. Waiting for the news of his passing is just awful. He raised me along with Grandma, and I live on the other side of the country from them.

Thank you for this poem.

I lost my granddad a month ago. I never really got to tell him how much I really love him. We love and miss you terribly, but we know in our hearts your finally pain free and happy. We will always treasure the memories of all the good times we had together as a family, more than you will ever know. We know you are watching over us, like you always did. As a family we will never let your spirit die, we will meet again one day RIP DADA

I just found out my grandpa passed away today :( I knew he had trouble with breathing but the thought of him dying never crossed my mind. I knew he was strong enough to get through it. He got rushed to the hospital when he had a heart problem. My grandpa lives in another country on the other side of the world so when he died I thought it was my fault because he never saw me one last time. I'm sorry was all I could say to him. I'm sorry I wasn't there I'm sorry for our fights I'm sorry for everything. I just hope God takes good care of you up there. Thank you. For everything. Rest In Peace. Gone but not forgotten. I love you always.

My grandad passed away too, the last thing I said was good bye, which makes me sad because I think that I said it because I was saying good bye you are going to die, but I know that's not true.and I wish he was still here to tell me he loved me. I feel bad for saying good bye as the last thing I could say, I wish I said love you or something.

I know how it to lose someone close to you, I lost my grandad to, when I was 9. It was horrible time for me then, because he was my only escape from everything, I loved him so much and he miss me every day. I remember him when I hear our song on the radio, then the tears just fall down of my face. I miss me so much, I love him

My grand dad was a veteran from the army. Patriotism, love, talent, honesty and caring where his middle names. He passed away on Christmas Eve of 2011 and I still feel each day as the first of his non being. A talented and passionate golfer, he was. He has won countless awards, and broken dozens of records. He married a woman who passed away shortly after the engagement and found another love. My role model is him and when other loved ones pass I will never miss them as much as I miss him.

I'm only 14 yeas old and my grandad just passed away yesterday. I remember him so much even though I haven't seen him for the last 5 years. My aunt called my mother and she just broke down crying and so did my grandma who just came 5 days ago from Bolivia. It's hard to see someone you love so much has gone. I used to yell at him. but regret it all. I didn't have the chance to say good bye to him but what hurts the most is that I never said to him that I loved him. We had so many good times together but I miss him so much. this poem made me cry cuz I won't be at his funeral since it's in Bolivia :( te querio papa arturo.

My gramps just died a hour ago.. I never felt this sad before my real father cared more about getting drunk and high then his family. Gramps took over role as dad even after mom remarried he in my eyes was more a father figure to me than my real and step father. I know his suffering is over I just had so many promises to keep. A son he never met, a wedding coming I wanted him to witness. I'm sorry gramps. I'll make it up to you by raising my kids just as good as you raised me. Rest in peace. I love you and miss you. I'll never forget everything you gave and gave up for me.

My grandad just died a few days ago, it was so hard just hearing from my dad when he came to pick me up from school that my grandad has just passed away. It felt like my head was about to explode of tears and fright and I couldn't get that fact that he had passed though my head. He died of pancreatic cancer the worst of all of them, he was a strong man....never drank, never smoked, ate healthy all the time and didn't do anything bad to deserve this. I loved my grandad like another father and I can understand how you all are feeling :(

To Granddad,

I love you granddad with all my heart and will miss you so,
Here is a poem for you for the sadness you had to go.

My love for you will never end,
For me you have been a special friend.
Unfortunately you had to go,
You fought your life from head to toe.
Where you are is a better place for you,
For sure we will always remember you.
You're like another star in the sky shining bright,
When you died it felt there was no light.
Although you died we will never be apart,
I will always love you from the bottom of my heart.
You are just simply the best,
With you there was no stress.
I cried an ocean of tears,
As I feel so empty with many fears.
It was so hard saying goodbye,
But sadly you had to die.
Granddad your still the best,
Never will my love for you get less

Rest In Peace Granddad. xxx

This poem made me cry, I lost my grandpa about 7 months ago, it was a very hard time and still is, I don't think I will ever get over losing him. He had lung cancer 3 times and this last time took his life. I was always very close to him, sometimes he could be as mean as anyone I've known, but he always had a awesome side. I just wish I could have said goodbye.
