I lost my dad August 28, 2002. He was my everything. He was 82 when he passed away. I miss him more every day. I'll be sitting at work and will be thinking about him. He was the most perfect dad ever.

Tears In My Daddy's Eyes

My daddy was a god
Who knew all things.
And better than Santa,
With the gifts he'd bring.

I knew his voice

And loved it when
He would sing me to sleep.

My dad is my hero. He has been my mentor and inspiration throughout my life. He celebrated his 75th birthday in 2009. Not having any idea what to give him, I decided what I wanted to do was tell him what he means to me, so I got out my pen and paper and started writing, and the end result became "My Father, My Friend."

There always comes a time in a father's life when he has to watch his children growing up without him to show them the way. A father's role as a parent is to teach his children and give them the strength they will need to grow into an adult. Most fathers don't even know they are doing a good job. I have been blessed with a great father, and I wrote this for him after graduation.

He never had much money to spend
But he had the respect of all his friends
He was born and died in the same county
He never felt the need to search the world for bounty
He got up each morning at the break of dawn
Ate breakfast, packed his lunch and then he was gone

It takes a lot of work with a family to feed
A lot of devotion to meet their need
But he did it for years till his family was grown
Then he could retire and get to stay home

A time for rest but it didn't last long
He became sick and then he was gone
I guess I thought he would always be there
When I had a problem I needed to share
But when I am low and feeling sad
