She said I was a good person.
And hoped I would be ok.
She was sorry she had to hurt me,
As she finally ran away.

It took 20 years and then some.
Four children and many tears.
Although she said there was fun,
her words still ring in my ears....

"I never thought the day would come", she said "where I just can't go on."
You see her supply of hopes and dreams, had finally come and gone.

As she dangled from the very end of her rope,
I reached out my hand.
I told her please, there is still hope,
but she slowly looked away and let go, not knowing where she'd land.

Im not ready to give up yet.
My feelings for you will never fade.
If you don't believe me ,make a bet.
One like you have never made.

Im not ready to turn away.
Search the world for another you.
No interest in wasting another day.
Is that what you want me to do?

Im not ready, to accept.
That your feelings for me are not the kind.
That will allow you to be kept.
What is it that you seek to find?

Im not ready to move along.
Change my whole life, and start anew.
Im pretty sure there's something wrong.
With going looking for, another you.

Im not ready, to say goodbye.
But if I have to, start again.
The first date, for this guy.
Will be with the one, where life began.

The type of woman, who walks into a room, and her smile turns every head.

The type with warmth and beauty,
That like a fire must be fed.

Not the type of fire, with a burst and then its gone.

But the type of fire, that burns slowly, all night long.

Just like any fire, it needs a bit of fresh air now and then.

May also need protection, to have the warmth, you must defend.

Cause there's never been a fire, to take the winds and driving rain.

Yet only need a stick or two, to melt away your pain.

So if you decide to sleep too long,
And wake up too much after dawn.

You may, wake up some day.
With your fire woman, gone......AWAY

If you miss someone when they are near,
don't think twice or hesitate.
Hold them close for they are dear,
or you may make a big mistake.

As time goes by the distance grows,
the cracks appear that no one sees.
Just like a lawn that no one mows,
Too busy looking at the trees.

The rain and cold will take their toll,
Enter the cracks and freeze and pry.
Get inside just like a mole,
And that's the time you better try.

There comes a point where you will find,
you're missing them from far away.
That's when you know you are the kind,
that only lives from day to day.

Learn from your past, do not forget,
and think ahead of what you will do.
Or this mistake it will beget,
the end of all that's close to you.

When you lose someone so precious to you.
A woman so rare there could never be two.

No one is perfect in every which way.
Just the right balance is all I can say.

Sharp as a tack and rarely confused.
Even if she was, you never knew.

Determined and fierce yet cheerful and calm.
Kept her composure like singing a song.

Kept with the beat and the perfect time.
The odd hiccup, but always in line.

Sometimes she'd stray too far left or the right.
Always righted the ship again, and never lost sight.

Never a nag or complainer you see.
Not let little things ruin a day that could be.

Don't get me wrong she wasn't a prune.
She could party all night and be up well before noon.

Sometimes she spread herself way too thin.
But pushing yourself is far from a sin.

She danced how she dressed, sexy with style.
A wonderful laugh and beautiful smile.

If there was ever a woman who could have any man.
I'm sure she's the one, I'm her biggest fan.

I can't say it was, love at first sight, she was far too young.
A little naïve because of where she was from.

I wish I had taken her under my wing, cause I knew she was special, at least to me.
Instead I ran, let her grow and be free.

When our paths next collided the girl I knew.
Had become a young woman that was like only a few.

Over the years she went from quite rare and fine.
To the woman she is, a one of a kind.

She is unlike any other, unique in so many ways.
I can't help but love her for the rest of my days.

I'm afraid that someday the feel of her silky soft skin.
Will start to fade, will I ever feel that again?

Do I carry on and settle for another?
They won't even be close, so why even bother?

The attraction I have for this woman is so strong.
To be with another feels nothing but wrong.

After living a lifetime with the very one.
The love of your life, what have I done ?

I can't have her back and I can't let her go.
What other choice do I have? I surely don't know.

This woman cannot be replaced like a lightbulb you see.
I will be alone in the dark forever, just me.

What hurts the most, is that how I feel.
Means nothing to her, it's not a big deal.

I'm easily replaced,  I offer so little.
My feelings for her are only a riddle.
