A Soul's Cry: Navigating The Darkness Within

I wrote this poem because it is exactly what I feel. Each line portrays the anguish of feeling alone, the struggle to find meaning in a world that seemed devoid of purpose

What do you call it when all you feel is pain?
When your loved ones look at you and all you feel is shame?
When you're tired of living and playing this game?
When you know your life is meaningless and you're the only one to blame?

What do you call it when the hurt is in your soul?
When you smile and laugh but you know it's all a show?
When you feel like you've hit your all-time low?
When nothing makes you happy and the darkness around you grows?

What do you call it when you feel so alone?
When you're in your house but it don't feel like home?
When you look back in your life and every choice you made now seems wrong?
When the wait to die seems too long?

Sadly, nowadays that's how a good bit of the world's population describes how they feel and the thoughts on their emotional state about their life in general. It's sad. It's NOT you it's because the world is so over populated with self-centered/robotic like heartless souls who go around poisoning the world and other people's hearts and souls. The world has just become a cruel place where everyone just cares about themselves, a very few (becoming extinct) are empathetic, compassionate and kind and generous to others...just don't let them break you so that you join their side. ;)

Nice poem it really touched me because that's my life. 15 girls just gang up on me always and it's harder when there's nobody to talk to. So here's a tip just move on in life and stand up to the people or your boyfriend that hurt you cause if you don't it will hurt even more then it does now.

This poem speak of how I feel. My story is hard to explain because I have gone through so much. But I had plan to give up, to take my life 11-15-13 which is tomorrow but I saw how much my family needed me so I changed my plan, I'm going try to make it though all this pain, hate, and depression.

This poem was truly amazing. I feel exactly the same way. It caught everything that's been on my mind that I haven't been able to get out, all in the perfect words. It really touched me. Thank you for sharing.

I just got turned down by this lovely girl. We had dinner a few times, breakfast couple of times. We shared everything's on life, Christianity, favorite sermons...etc. But all I have got is that I want to be your sister! Well, Thank you I have enough sibling and won't need another one. Isn't that true, the deeper you love, the deeper you get hurt. But the alternative of choosing not to love is even worse than getting hurt.

This poem brought me to tears. It is so beautifully written, and I relate too well with it. I can't remember how many times I lie awake at night, silently crying myself to sleep. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who feels exactly like this.

This poem has really touched me, I am always getting hurt by ones I though are my friends and always being made fun of because I am a little slow and I have dyslexia.. I always cry myself to sleep at night and always when I am around people hide my pain inside. I have issue with bottling it up.. But it really touched me.

Your poem touched me. I wrote like that from really young, like 12 years old, and thought that way since 4 or 5. Growing up was so hard with no good example of how to cope or nobody caring the way its supposed to be. I knew inside, each time stuff wasn't right. The worst was abandonment and not hearing I am a necessary human. But my whole family had issues so big. It didn't give me much to work with. Its taken lots of reigning in my hurts, to TLC myself 1 at a time. I didn't wound overnight. I didn't heal overnight. But I am more patient with me than everyone else who wasn't. Grief has a way of healing, like a 'cure'. Don't cut anymore, or pills. Ignore hypocrites. You can and will heal. Trust me.

This poem touches all ages I know what it feels like to be lost I got into a relationship, that seems to have hurt me rather than help me. I stayed because I had a child with this person, I gave them everything I had now I've lost everything that made me who I am, and there, is never any regard for my feelings. My family is out of state as well as my friends, and the only person around me cares more about my checks than my welfare. I have high blood pressure and get closer and closer to getting more sick because the person in my life treats me like shit because we have a child together and uses the child when I want to walk away. That poem made me realize where my life is if I don't separate from the people who don't have my best interest at heart.

That just made me cry... it's exactly what I'm feeling right now. the reason I'm searching through the web for poems like this.. is because I just finished writing a poem about my life right now.. and how it's not how I thought it would be...
I just have too much going on. and nobody see's it.
but this really touched me..

I'm pretty young, but I've been through a lot. I'm too young to truly understand love, but I'm old enough to truly understand pain. This is how I feel all the time, I call the fake smile my Mask because it's something I hide behind. Sometimes I wish I could die, but then I think hard about my friends (although that's very few) and realize that if one of they died I'd be broken, and they probably would be broken if I was dead.
Not everybody will feel like cutting or other self harm, but I sure have. I've cut on my ankle until my sister found out. That's when I started on my wrist but covered it with sillybandz and wristbands. I have cut for a week. Although it isn't very long, I know that I'm not going to cut anymore. Cutting really isn't an answer. I hope people can relate.

When I read this poem I cried cause it has everything to deal with what I'm going through. I'm bullied at school have problems with my family members... I tried screaming and locking myself in my room with the music blasted but I stayed angry.. So I resorted to cutting my wrist and punching walls... I've never thought I would do that and I wish I could stop but the stress of the rumors spread about me at school have reached my home and now my parents no longer trust me. I have been angry and upset since I was in 6th grade I am now in highschool so its gotten worse. I get picked on because of my sexuality (bisexual), the music I listen to and the people I talk to. I've been called freak, weirdo, loser, emo, goth, I've been told that life would be so much better if I never existed, that if I died no one would care they'd be happy. My life is nothing but a living Nightmare.

I can completely relate to this because I suffer from depression and have gone to a few extremes and have almost died twice and have so many scars. My family doesn't care about me and I feel like there is no point of living. I lost so many friends and sit alone at lunch. I always get in trouble at school because I just don't care anymore.

An Answer you will not receive

I am surrounded by my sorrow;
Engulfed in my misery.
No longer am I content
Believing That It is not meaningless..
"Why?"
A question that I was once asked.
My answer Is silence
In truth It is simply words that I cannot grasp..
Couldn't care to explain.
I have tried so many times,
And yet the words that escape my lips
You simply ignore
Or cannot understand.

I envy how Oblivious most are
To the emotions of true depression.
It Amuses me how I can simply say
That I am fine
And you accept my lie
Without a second thought.

This poem is really common to me, I've heard it several of times, but now, more than ever, it has touched my heart. I've been having problems with my family, and my boyfriend left me to go out with someone else. I cant really tell my parents what's going on with me, because they already know that I have depression problems. I've been having suicidal thoughts, and I really don't know what to do. this feeling is eating at me, and I need it to stop now.

Man... I can deeply relate to this... My life seems like that. All the people I know push me away, I feel so alone. I usually don't really speak that often so it worsens, it has become a bad habit. I feel like people laugh at me behind my back. I have low self-esteem. I take crap from everybody. Sometimes I just feel like I want to end it all right here and right now... Your poem helped ease the pain. Thank you.

I love reading poems that make me cry. The meaningful ones touch me in every way. I write poems till this day. Reading this poems made me feel pain because it explains me in everyway. Reading this makes me think back on the things I've done wrong the things I can change the things I can change in the future. It's nice that there is someone else that know how I feel and can actually say they understand..

I thought this was so sad, yet where so many people are. I was there, and I feel confident in saying that if you feel near suicidal because you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, create a light. Reach out to anyone and anything to get help out of where you are. I thought I might end my life if I stayed where I was, so I made as much money as I could, took out loans, and moved to a school 300 miles away. I have never been happier, and I know it was God helping me get here as otherwise I would not have made it.
Do whatever it takes; going into debt is better than ending your life. All things can be made right in time, but not if you're dead. Please, do this for you.

I love this poem. It describes what I'm going through so well. I'm battling homes, going back and forth from my mom to my dad's, and they live in separate towns. I'm only 15 so it's a big deal for me. Then my cousin who is like a brother to me got in a really bad wreck over the weekend and he's actually having surgery today. And on top of that my boyfriend who I've been with for 2 years says he's giving up hope on me. He was the only person I had to try to talk to, but it's not like he listened anyway. Incredible poem.

This poem touched me so much. My life feels like I am here for nothing all I am here for is to ruin other peoples wonderful lives. Me and my brother got caught in trouble with the cops, which ruined my life, his, my moms, everyone in my family.
People around me that I call friends are backstabbers, and man stealers.
I am ready to move on to heaven I think I am not meant to be here.:(

wow, I love the poem it relates a lot to me as the way I feel. Its like every single day I have to live with a fake smile, a smile that I don't even feel. The only reason you smile or laugh its so people won't know what's wrong with you because you don't want them to ask you what's wrong with you, and then having to tell them your story is worst, so the only thing you have left is lie to them, and keep everything inside you even though its killing you. I know how it feels to feel alone and not have one person to talk to about anything. Nobody can understand how you feel except yourself, and sometimes you just don't even understand neither. It's even worst when you don't have anymore the person you love so much.

just don't cut yourself ^_^. I thought this poem was really relateful (from the comments lol) I think this poem was really good, keep it up. this poem is like a been there done that thing to me. awesome job!

I relate to this poem so much its unbeleavable..and I mean every word. I know exactly what your feeling in this poem and its a horrible thing to go through especially when you have no one to talk to about it and nothing seems to make it any easier. I know what its like to put on a fake smile everyday just so no one will ask you what's wrong and then if they do you lie and say nothing when every possible thing is wrong. when you do talk to someone they just don't understand and you cant explain it because sometimes you don't understand either. this poem made me cry and I really related to it I also have poems on this site about depression but they're nothing like this. I really really liked this poem.

This poem really touched me. I have been going through just about the same thing. I dated this guy for a year and he basically cheated on me over and over but I couldn't leave him and now that we are not together it just gets worse and worse every day. He is constantly trying to make my life miserable and it works. We had everything planned out and now I have nothing. I loved him and gave him everything but he gave me nothing in return but a broken heart.

I also have a broken heart from my ex boyfriend. He cheated on me the day after he told me he would love me forever and never leave me. I feel like I rather die than live this horrible hell hole. But this poem really got to me and I LOVED it.
