What are you supposed to feel
when the woman you loved dies
In a really dark moment
do you wish you had gone first?
I walk into our bedroom to tell her something
and she is not there...now what--
Who knew sadness would smack me in the face
I was just hoping for one more day
It's called the "new normal" for the person left behind
The phone rings--it's not her
A voice from another room--it's not her
There is no one in bed with me but a pillow
The new normal--no thanks
I would give anything just to see her smile one more time
Thank you for sharing this very personal and beautifully written poem. My heart goes out to you as you cope with this "new normal." I hope you keep writing and sharing. Best wishes, Virginia
