Wife Death Poem

This was written after the sudden loss of my wife. She was not just a wife but my best friend and partner in many of the adventures we experienced throughout our time together. I was trying to put the overwhelming emotions down on paper.

The Loss Of My Wife

What are you supposed to feel
when the woman you loved dies
In a really dark moment
do you wish you had gone first?
I walk into our bedroom to tell her something
and she is not there...now what--
Who knew sadness would smack me in the face
I was just hoping for one more day
It's called the "new normal" for the person left behind
The phone rings--it's not her
A voice from another room--it's not her
There is no one in bed with me but a pillow
The new normal--no thanks
I would give anything just to see her smile one more time

Oh how I feel for you. I lost my husband over a year ago and I'm still struggling. Keep writing - I found that helped. Very best wishes, Ann.
