Dream Poem

Growing Up In The 80's

I grew up in the 80's in Kentucky. That time holds so many wonderful memories. I wanted to share a piece of that. If you grew up in the 80's, maybe this poem will take you back in time too. Even if it's just a moment.

My 80's Dream

Waking up in the blue hour
Waiting for the sun to rise
Sitting in my favorite chair
Drinking coffee, eyes to the sky.

Thinking back to a simpler time
The 80's to be precise
Feeling so nostalgic
Traveling back would be so nice.

Remembering my 1st love
Butterflies in my tummy
Still holds a place in my heart
A love as sweet as honey.

Cheering for my high-school team
Flipping to a Scottish tune
Distractions of my football cutie
Who was wearing 82.

Concerts were the thing to do
And Starwood was the place
Guns n' Roses, Sweet Child O' Mine
That Iconic opening tune.

Riding back roads late at night
Windows down & music up
Heading to our favorite spot
To heal my best friends break-up.

Heading home, it's curfew time
Our favorite song on repeat
Feeling a little tipsy tonite
Riding in on Garmon Street.

Homesick for a time once was
My 80's dream one summer day
Falling asleep to The Outsiders
Knowing nothing gold can ever stay.
