Loving Poem about Family

Poem Exploring Roles Of Womanhood

So many complex facets to being a woman. Here is my description of just some of the personas we adopt within certain relationships. Of course, there's grandma, and aunt, and cousin, and friend, etc., and although the original has these included, I have to admit that to read it is like reading "Gone with The Wind"...it is truly an epic, so I edited for publication. Hope you enjoy.

Mother, Daughter, Sister, And Woman

©

Published by Family Friend Poems March 2012 with permission of the Author.

As mother, I am nurturer.
A guardian, a guide
As mother, I am gentleness
A warmth of selfless pride
As mother, I am teacher
I’m strength, security
As mother, I am love and peace
I am the sanctuary
As daughter, I am humbled
I am sheltered, I am child
As daughter, I’m a student of
The mirror of my eyes
As daughter, I seek wisdom
As daughter, I am innocence
Forever asking why
As sister, I am bound by blood
A confidante for life
As sister, I am kindred truth
Eternally entwined
As sister and as no one else
I speak so honestly
As sister, I am not like you
But you are part of me
As woman, I am all of these
And very glad to be
A woman who just wears her heart
With pride upon her sleeve
Where all the world can see!
