Divorce Poem

Poem For The Children I'm Not Allowed To See

I wrote this poem to my daughters. I lost a very bitter custody battle, and the father of my daughters was able to convince them to not allow me visitation with them. And so for many years, he played a kind of yoyo game with me by going back and forth from denying me to allowing me to see them for a little while only to abruptly stop again.

To my so sweet babies,
Who suffer through this most,
I am so very sorry
You must read this in a post.

If only I could hold you
When your time of need is great.
I hope one day you'll know,
And for me you won't feel hate.

I wish that I could take away
All the tears you've cried for me.
I would give up the world
To keep you from pain, you see.

I want to chase away
All your bad dreams at night,
And be there to guide you
When you don't feel quite right.

To share in all your happiness
Is still a dream for me.
I hope you know I love you
More than life, you see.
