Bullying Poem

Poem About Being The New Girl

I had an assignment last school year to write three poems, each discussing social issues. This one was my favorite because I felt that I, in a way, could relate to it, and so could many other people. I've loved this poem since then and figured, why not? So here you go.

They point their fingers and laugh
As she makes her way down the hall.

She keeps her eyes on the floor
And tries to ignore them all.

She makes her way through the day,
Wishing for someone to understand.

She wants someone to talk to;
She needs someone to lend her a hand.

Each night she cries herself to sleep.
How could people be so cruel?

Everyone makes fun of her
Just because she's new at school.

I'm in the 8th grade and have already been to 6 different schools. I understand what it's like to be the new girl nobody likes. I've been the victim of multiple bullying scenarios because I was the new kid. I'm really happy someone had the courage to write a poem like this about it, because now I know I'm not alone.

So I was teased by my VERY best friend and that she and my other "friend" had a secret. After that she told me, "Marcielle, I hate you. Don't talk to me." I was like what? I instantly burst out crying. Now I feel an urge to "fight" them.

If she doesn't like you there is nothing anyone can do about that, but give her a reason not to hate you. If you're talking about fighting the people, don't. That gets you nowhere. If you are talking about fighting your feeling, don't. You have the right to cry, but don't give the girls what they want. They want to see you hurt, upset, sad, mad, but let them see you make new friends.

In the seventh grade a girl came up to me and told me that she had seen a post on Snapchat that was about me. I am heavier set and have been bullied all my life. The post was of me crouched down tying my shoe, and the caption said "nasty fat ass". I broke into tears and ran from the room heading for the bathroom. On my way I ran directly into the principal. He stopped me and asked me what was wrong. Babbling through my tears I told him. He took me to the counselor, and left me there to find the girls who had done this. The two girls were suspended for three days. Two months later I was still recovering, when another girl took a picture of me and posted it on Snapchat as well. The caption read "She could sell rolls at Walmart." This time I got angry. I'd never even met any of them. I slipped into depression. But on day one of my sisters tried to hang herself, and I saw what it did to my mom and I stopped. I have a life and I am going to live it despite how many times I get shoved down.

Hey don't let anybody bring you down like that. You are beautiful just the way you are. I'm happy that you are comfortable in your own body. Today these boys were teasing me cuz I'm very small. They called me an ugly little stick. They said that they can easily snap twigs like me. It hurt but I have to learn to be comfortable in my own body and I'm glad you already have. Keep your head up girl. You are beautiful.
