    • Published: June 19, 2024

    in Sonnet Poems

Let's write a sonnet showing how it's done
We have our topic: that's a good first start
If not, we'd have to search a while for one
A subject that appeals to mind and heart

  • My Friend The Tree

    • Published: June 3, 2024

I sit beside my tall and leafy friend

  • Baking Memories

I hope this is a poem that expresses the warmth and sense of belonging I felt when I helped my mom bake the yearly Christmas cookies. I chose the Pantoum format, which is structured in four-lined stanzas (quatrains.) Lines 2 and 4 of the first quatrain become lines 1 and 3 of the next one. The repetition felt like a good fit for the repetitious nature of making sheet after sheet of cookies, each year. Here is a link to Pantoums in case you want to learn more. https://poets.org/glossary/pantoum

    in Christmas Poems

I remember coming home from school in the middle of December
The butter was on the counter, warming up
Two aprons were draped across the backs of kitchen chairs, waiting
The cookie cutters were arranged on the table, ready to work their magic
