About Randall W. West

I have always enjoyed writing poems to express my feelings. They are a reflection of my mood at the time. Consequently, it could be remorseful, mischievous, or philosophical. I've frequently been asked to write for special occasions by family and friends. I do so but I don't really enjoy it because I'm locked into a time frame and category. I like to write when I'm inspired or just plain aggravated. I will refrain from political subjects because I despise people in the public eye such as sports or entertainment that feel obligated to use their forum to force feed their opinions on others. I'm not on any social network because I KNOW that eventually I would put in writing something I could never take back!

  • The Garden

As I look around the world as it is today, I see hatred, prejudice, greed and destruction. Politicians seem only interested in obtaining votes as opposed to governing FOR THE PEOPLE. God appears to be fed up with things as they are because of all of the natural disasters that occur every day. We can only dream of a better life.

I dreamt there was a garden that God blessed with love and hope.
Nestled near a mountainside and nurtured by its slope.
Hordes of gorgeous butterflies would pollinate the yield
of all the lovely flowers growing in that sacred field.

His coat was soft and silky, and his eyes were baby blue.
His nose was pink and runny, and his legs were strong and true.
It really was amazing how that pup could steal your heart.
I never would imagine that a dog could be so smart.

Behold the aging soldier. He's grown longer in the tooth.
He wears the scars of battle that had squandered all his youth.
Although his war has ended, he finds much to his dismay.
The demons that now haunt him just don't seem to go away.

  • How Do I Love You?

    • Published: October 2022

    in I Love You Poems

If you see the pain upon my face, it's not so hard to take.
Although it hurts a lot sometimes, it's a very special ache.
If I seem to be uneasy or appear to be so blue,
It's just my heart's too small to hold all the love I feel for you.

    in Hurting Poems

I'm sure it won't be easy repairing my poor heart.
I've gone about it knowing right from the very start.
I simply can't complete it now and maybe never will.
It's got a part still missing that only she could fill.
