About Dan Temple

Dan Temple is a hobbyist poet with a love for children and the written word. He was drawn to children's poetry at an early age and inspired to create his own work that would one day inspire others. • Something In My Ear

    This poem was inspired by a trip to the doctor with my son. The experience is only slightly exaggerated.

    I put a popcorn kernel
    In my ear the other night.
    My parents tried to get it out,
    But it was much too tight.

  • There's A Monster In My Closet

    Not every bump in the night is frightening. Sometimes they're surprisingly silly.

    Michael Murphy ate a worm;

  • Counting Zebra Stripes

    I've always loved short children's verse that paints a picture and makes me chuckle. While watching zebras at the zoo with my kids, I found myself couting their stripes (the zebras', not my kids'). This led to both a deep conversation about what color zebras actually are and, more importantly, the creation of this poem. I hope you enjoy.

    Counting stripes on zebra backs
    Is harder than it seems.
    Should I start with black ones
    Or the white ones in between?
