I wish to delve into the depths of your mind,
Where mischief lurks and secrets unwind.
What drove you to inflict such pain on me?
In the shadows of your thoughts, what did you see?

  • Tinsel And Tears

My dad sexually abused me when I was younger. I was too little to remember the dates that it happened however one year he saw me on boxing day and that is one date that even little me remembers. So, Boxing Day is the day that I let myself grieve for my childhood; I let myself cry and scream about Boxing Day, but all the other days, too.

A decorated house, so bright, so warm,
A present wrapped, a Christmas norm.
Red ribbon gleamed on a gift wrapped tight,
Beneath the tree, aglow with light.

  • Monster

    • Published: March 1, 2024

    in Abuse Poems

I saw a monster, I promise he was real,
A presence haunting with a touch you could feel.
His footsteps echoed like a beast's heavy tread,
A roar of laughter that filled me with dread.

  • Not The Actions Of An Impulsive Man

Research suggests impulsivity is a common factor in sexual abuse, but my dad's actions were premeditated, planned weeks in advance. I often wonder if he laid awake at night planning the next time he could see me and making the next time even more horrific. His actions were not impulsive! He enjoyed planning the crimes as much as he did committing them.

No sudden urges swayed your mind,
Just a clear path, steadily defined.
Actions deliberate, not wild and free,
    No spur-of-the-moment, no instant spree.

Bodies contaminated, tainted by his sin,
Trapped in cycles, impossible to win.
Forced into silence, bearing heavy weight,
Burdened by shame, consumed by hate.

  • Battlefield

My body is a battlefield for self-harm; after months of being clean, I'm struggling again, so I wrote this to try and put my thoughts into something more productive.

My body is a battlefield of flesh,
Scars like trenches carved deep in my skin,
Each cut a soldier fallen, lost, distressed,
Silent witnesses to wars fought within.

  • Crimson Canvas

My poem uses art as a metaphor for self harm. I have cut since I was 12 and it's a constant battle to avoid slipping back into that habit. I have never been good at expressing my emotions, and I turned to self-harm as a way to do that, now I write poems instead.

My skin was a blank canvas,
    My arms a new page,
    My thigh an empty sheet,
    My body a hushed stage.
