Compassion Poem

Helping Others

I stuttered so bad that I had to write everything down. My doctor told me if I would work with others I would get over my fear of talking. Not only did it help me talk but it filled my life with purpose. I have done this since 1972 and never charged a penny. I was a master machinist but nothing gave my life more meaning than helping those who could not help themselves.

I will carry myself with honor
as I rise above the pain and horror.
I will not sit in judgment of those who need me
I will try to move humanity forward.

I will remember those who in the past
made it possible for me to see.
I know history will praise it's Kings and Queens
but let the unsung heroes reside in me.

Let me be the one who carries the torch
and draws the line in the sand.
As fear and anger rises in others
let me be the one who makes a stand.
