Loss of Father Poem

Saying Goodbye To My Father

My father passed away after a brief battle with cancer. He had a bad reaction to the chemo he was taking and spent his last 10 days in a hospital. It was Christmastime and he wanted so badly to go home. He felt so much better the day before he died and the doctor told him he may go home tomorrow. His tomorrow came but not the way any of us imagined. My brother and I held his hand as he took his final breaths that next morning.

Going Home

Today is the day
You've waited for so long.
Oh how we wish this was a dream.
Yesterday you seemed so strong.

You're going home to Jesus.
Your eyes are homeward bound.
Our hearts shattered into pieces,
But we didn't make a sound.

In our Father's house are many mansions.
We know that to be true.
It hurts so much to say goodbye,
But it's what we now must do.

We held your hand so tightly.
How could we ever let you go?
We softly whispered in your ear
How much we loved you so.

You're going home to Jesus.
Daddy, you don't have to be tough anymore.
We promise to be strong for you,
'Til we see you again upon that golden shore.
