Poem for Kids

Imaginative Play

I wrote this poem during a time in my life in which I had a daycare in my home. I was moving into a larger home and as I watched the children help me and play inside the boxes, I was reminded of the simple pleasures children enjoy, like being inside a cardboard box.

A Cardboard Box

Published by Family Friend Poems May 2017 with permission of the Author.

A cardboard box laid on its side.
Its top was open, its flaps were wide.
It called out for adventure, it called out for fun.
Oh, won't someone play with this one?
Hey Jimmy or Tom, hey Cindy or you.
Somebody climb up on top; it's perfect for two.
Now grab on tight, with all your might.
It's a guiding light,
A halo bright.
You can even feel the speed of light.
Yes, a cardboard box laid on its side.
Its top was open.
Its flaps were wide,
And children giggled when they climbed inside.
