God Poem

Poem On Overcoming Prejudice And Racism

I just wanted to write about something that's deep in my heart and how I feel. I wrote this poem many years ago and was asked once if I'll allow it to be used as the "Moto" of a school in Pennsylvania, my answer was yes.

Being Blind

Published by Family Friend Poems November 2010 with permission of the Author.

If we all were blind
maybe then we all could see
that you must first have love
for you and then for me.

God made us all the same
but there's a beautiful variety
maybe if we all were blind
that would eliminate racism
from society.

After all, what color is God?
Think if you dare.
Is he black or white
or should we really care?

Just think, if everyone were blind
then maybe they could see
that no matter if you're black or white
God lives in you and me.

I like this poem. I don't feel people should judge one another by the color of their skin or the way they look. My family is American Indian and years ago people would segregate them from others. It wasn't right. My Grandmother was ashamed of her ancestor and would not tell anyone she was Indian. This is shameful, just because of how society treated her and her family years ago. It wasn't right for her family and the other races who were treated the same way. It would be nice if the "do gooders" could have a taste of their own medicine or be temporarily blinded upon meeting someone of another race. Maybe then, there wouldn't be so much discrimination.
