I never want this to go unsaid,
So here in this poem is for it to be said.
There are no words to express how much you mean to me,
A son like you, I thought could never be.
Because the day you were born, I just knew,
God sent me a blessing - and that was you.
For this I thank Him every day.
You are the true definition of a son, in every way.
It is because of you that my life has meaning.
Becoming a mom has shown me a new sense of being.
I want you to know that you were the purpose of my life,
Out of everything I did, it was you that I did right.
Always remember that I know how much you care,
I can tell by the relationship that we share.
For a son like you there could be no other,
And whether we are together or apart,
Please do not ever forget,
You will always have a piece of my heart.

As your mother, I want what's best for you
and want to see good in all that you do.
I would like you to take this advice and understand
that even though you are now a man,
in life you have to make a plan.
I would like for you to sit and decide
who you really are inside.
I want you to ask yourself, "Where do I plan to be a few years from now?"
and then make that plan to do it somehow.
This question you may have to toss around in your mind
as it may take you some time
for you to feel the answer you want to find.
This answer should come from your heart.
Family and friends should take no part.
They should not influence you in any way.
Then your life, as you know, it will be taken away.
I want you to be true to yourself,
and I will be there "only to guide you" if you need any help.
Always remember that life is what "you" make it,
so please do not forsake it,
and when the answer comes
and you know who "you" are and what person "you" want to become,
I will stand by your side
on whatever you decide.
All this is important for you to understand,
as your life just began
and if you never take my advice again,
let it be known...
"life can never go wrong...when you are a man of your own."
