  • The Impact Of Mankind On Nature.

I wrote this poem after watching David Attenborough's program on the planet Earth and man's impact shown recently on TV.I felt strongly moved after, especially when at the end he said" what we do now is up to every one of us."It means we are all responsible for the welfare of the earth and it's resources and life even on a smaller scale. It is up to us to act responsibly and look after it.

The population is exploding and it tries to meet man's needs,
Forest trees are being cut down, which started from mere seeds.
Cattle ranches are needed to supply meat to fast- food chains,
But nature tries to bounce back , but is destroyed time and time again.

Busy bee, busy bee, don't you ever stop?!
Hummin' and a buzzin' into the next tall flower you hop,
Crawling into the centre, and down a flower tube,
Trying to find sweet nectar, as sweet as sugar cubes,

    Coughs, colds, viruses and flu,
Bugs everywhere for me and you.
To catch us out in wind and rain,
    Illness is here once again.

My darling, remember those days long ago,
When we both held hands through rain and snow?
We cheerfully chatted and were full of fresh life.
How positive we were in our strife.

  • The Dandelion Clock.

This poem is about the intrusive Dandelion flower which everyone seems to hate growing in their borders and lawns, probably because it seeds and the seed heads fly everywhere and next year even more of the flowers appear ! It is seen as a nusciance yet it is an invaluable source of nectar for insects and butterflies.

    The Dandelion clock.

A perfectly formed ball of crowded seeds,
Yet considered by all, an intrusive type of weed,

  • The Mighty Oak.

Most people love big, old Oak trees and there are plenty in the countryside where I live.I came across several on a Lock down walk and was inspired to write this poem about it.

You're the grand , old man of the woods,
no one knows for how long you have stood,
Only your circular rings will reveal,
the length of time you've overhung that field.
