  • A Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer
  • Born on January 6, 1883, in Bsharri, Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate, Ottoman Empire
  • Immigrated to the United States in 1895 with his family
  • Known for writing in both English and Arabic
  • A literary and political rebel in the Arab world
  • Celebrated as a literary hero in Lebanon
  • Best known for his 1923 book The Prophet, which became popular in the 1930s and 1960s counterculture
  • The third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Laozi
  • Died on April 10, 1931, at the age of 48
