Short Poem To Raise Awareness Of Our Words

In elementary school, I was bullied for several years, and even though it was just with words, it left a deep wound in my soul, and it wreaked havoc on my self-esteem. And that's why I wrote this short poem: to raise awareness in children on the words we speak and on verbal bullying. My poem was inspired by the well-known children's rhyme.

Sticks And Stones...

They say sticks and stones
May break my bones
But mean words never can...

Well, that's not true;
Hurtful words from you
Hurt me in my inner man!

Words that are icky
Can be ever so sticky
And they burn like coal...

While sticks and stones
May break my bones
Mean words break my soul!
