Falling in Love Poem

This poem is about the night I fell in love with the man I went on to marry. We were together for over 50 years. Sadly he died last year and I now treasure special memories.

A Lasting Memory

It was not the sight of a night sky
bejewelled with numerous stars,
nor the whisperings from the waves.

It was the light in your eyes,
taste of salt on your lips, 
when I received that first kiss.
 
It was not the rippled moonlit path 
beguiling us into the sea,
nor the glow of a smouldering fire.
 
It was the warmth of your arms
and your talk that charmed 
it was that - that stayed with me.

Ann D. Stevenson only began writing after she retired, when she joined a Writing for Well-Being course. It was during a difficult time, as her husband had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She found writing very therapeutic, more especially poetry.
