  1. The Pink Summer Sphere

    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2016 with permission of the Author.

Every summer, my family and I would travel back to Korea and buy the peaches in the wet market...the juiciest, ripest, and the biggest peach that would make your mouth drip saliva. In the sweltering hot summer, taking those peaches out from the freezer and putting them in your mouth gives a sensation that makes your mouth burst in sweetness. Peaches are a summer fruit that should not go unnoticed.

    in Haiku

    The chill, worming in
    Shock, pleasure, bursting within
    Summer tongue awakes

  5. Strawberry Moon

I love the different seasons of the year. This haiku-style poem is about the full moon of June, as summer really kicks in. Sometimes we even see a pink or reddish tint to the moon or halo, indicating a hot day to come. It also shows the power of the moon to control the ocean tides. Fishing on a summer day gives a sense of relaxation and joy, and if fortunate, can result in a delicious dinner. That seems like something to whistle about. This is written for my husband and two sons.

    in Summer Poems

ushers in hot days of June,
    high tides fill the dune,

This acrostic poem is about making memories with summer fun. Making mud pies is fun and messy. The children in our small town had lots of fun playing in the sandbox and making mud pies when we were children.

This haiku is about one of my favorite summer treats, ice cream! I wrote it for the July haiku contest, and it is a representative of my best efforts at writing something poetic about food in haiku form.

Summer has always been pink to me. Defining the sunsets, horizons, flowers, and drinks. I see the colour reflecting in summer romances and in kisses on the beach.

  12. Sweltering Climes

    • By SUSHMA A. SINGH
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016 with permission of the Author.

The poetic season of monsoon in North Indian plains is preceded by intense summer when temperatures soar up to 47 degrees Celsius. Heat and dust prevail everywhere and humanity seems to buckle down with languor and lethargy. To those unaccustomed to the harsh weather conditions, venturing out at peak hours may be perilous, with risk of succumbing to heatstroke. All eyes are pinned to the skies above, praying for clouds to emerge and descend down on mother earth and cool the raging fires.

    in Haiku

    Scorching sun rays, blazing winds
    Soul sizzling within!

  13. Ideal Day

    • By Suh Joon Kim
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016 with permission of the Author.

After school ends, you think what to do during summer break. No one to bother you from what you're about to do. You walk to the balcony, a book in your hand, and sit on the chair outside, the sea breeze facing you, as the sun beams down on you. You sip tea as you turn the pages until the sun starts setting. A seasonal rarity as the light fades and you see the beauty go down peacefully.

    in Haiku

    Sea breeze blows ahead
The book flows and the sun glows
    Perfect summer day

    • By Bethany V. Cove
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016 with permission of the Author.

When I was younger we would play hopscotch in the day and have campfires at night. I wanted to capture the feeling of how summer doesn't end when the sun goes down because it's a never ending cycle of fun, and day and night just seem like a difference in light when it comes to summer!

    in Haiku

    Nighttime campfires,
    Playing hopscotch every day,
    Laughter all the way!
